NEAL Technology has developed a unique GPS mapping system that has been successfully used in over 25,000 miles of strand mapping
with sub-meter levels of accuracy. Our mapping system consists primarily of a GPS receiver, Laser Rangefinder, a Laptop field computer, AutoCAD , and proprietary software and equipment developed by NEAL Technology. We begin a typical project by obtaining a basemap (such as a Tiger basemap) to use as a reference for our mapping personnel. Since GPS basemaps are typically not available, the first thing we do is GPS collect correct highway and street locations. Though this may sound difficult and time consuming, our technology allows us to accomplish this feat simply by driving down the highway. Our maps are automatically drawn in AutoCAD.

Now, with our new GPS corrected basemap, we begin collecting the necessary information for our customer. The types of features and information collected, is entirely dependent upon our customer’s needs, and we are capable of mapping anything that doesn’t move. Strand mapping, as-built information, and addresses, are typical of most projects, but we can include other features as well. Manholes, fire hydrants, wells, utility poles, buildings, drains, pedestals, E911 addressing, and other features can be collected with sub-meter levels of accuracy. An additional advantage our system has is that by using a laser range finder, it’s not necessary to occupy each location of every feature we collect.

Our proprietary software allows us to actually generate our maps in the field as we collect the data. This "real time mapping" improves the quality of data collected because it allows the Field Engineer to see the map as he is collecting his data so that it can be compared to the actual field location. The levels of quality assurance required is significantly reduced, and errors generated by data transfer (as in typical paper mapping) are totally eliminated
